Every May 5, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls invites us to reflect and take action. Also known as Red Dress Day, it reminds us of a reality marked by systemic violence and the lasting consequences of colonization. It is a time to honour the victims, support families and communities, and strengthen our collective commitment to truth, justice, and an end to gender-based violence. Wearing red, learning about and listening to Indigenous voices are essential acts of solidarity and respect.
For this occasion, the Bureau des Premiers Peuples, in close collaboration with the Native Student Association of Université Laval, is organizing a commemorative walk from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The meeting point is in front of the Alphonse-Desjardins building.
Here is the schedule:
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Sharing circle (sage, sweetgrass, etc.) (Discussions in front of the entrance to the Alphonse-Desjardins Pavilion) (Coffee and pastries)
2:00-2:15 p.m.: Preparation to depart
2:15-2:45 p.m.: Marches
2:45-3:10 p.m.: Speeches - Ms. Noémy Lefebvre of the Indigenous Student Association, Ms. Cathia Bergeron, Vice-Rector of Academic and Student Affairs, and Ms. Nadine Rousselot, Director of the Office of First Peoples
3:10-3:25 p.m.: Singing (Marie Gros-Louis)
You are invited to come and commemorate this day with us. We hope to see you there!
