Biography

Trap Grizzy, also known as Christian-John (CJ) Monias, is a music producer and songwriter from the northern region of James Bay, Quebec. He also creates and produces music under the name CJAY GRiZ, blending diverse influences to craft a distinctive sound that bridges Indigenous culture and modern production. A rising figure in the Canadian music scene, he fuses hip-hop, trap, R&B, and EDM into an atmospheric, hard-hitting sound driven by heavy 808s and melodic depth, reflecting influences like Travis Scott and The Weeknd while staying rooted in Indigenous and Canadian culture. Under the name CJAY GRiZ, he has collaborated with EarthChild (Mob Bounce), Hyper-T, Mattmac, KONG, Geronimo, Violent, and Melody McArthur, with whom he achieved three #1 hits on the SiriusXM Indigenous Music Countdown: Unceded, Twin Flames, and Fires All Over Town. In 2023, his EP Indian Time, created with EarthChild, became a milestone in Indigenous hip-hop, highlighted by the track Live For The Moment, which earned the Producer of the Year award at the International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards. Driven by his roots, environment, and a passion for innovation, Trap Grizzy is redefining the sound of modern Indigenous music while inspiring the next generation of artists.
