Biographie

Manik-5 is a young band led by William Nanipou, an Innu singer-songwriter from the Pessamit community on Quebec’s Côte-Nord. Now based in Quebec City, William has brought together four musicians who share a passion for Nu-Metal and a desire to express themselves through music that reflects who they are.

Having all faced significant challenges in their lives, music has become a refuge and an essential form of expression. For William and the band members, it is important to shed light on the injustices experienced by Indigenous peoples. Their songs tackle intergenerational trauma, language preservation, cultural genocide, and pay tribute to figures such as Joyce Echaquan.

“What better way to call out ignorance than with some heavy music,” says William. Inspired by The Rolling Stones and William Hennessey, Underflower develops a powerful, emotionally charged sound, performing in English, French, and Innu. Emerging on the scene, the band aims to create more music, perform live, and connect with audiences who can see themselves in their lyrics, energy, and quest for belonging.
