George Paul has been working on reviving traditional mi’kmag music with a modern twist for 30 years. He’s known in his community of Metepenagiag, New-Brunswick, as well as throughout the Maritimes for being an important voice on Indigenous issues and he collaborates with various schools, universities and government agencies. To George, traditional mi’gmaq values are of the utmost importance, which transpires in his work. George Paul and the Red Ochre Band won the 2001 Indigenous Artist of the Year award from the East Coast Music Association (ECMA).
