Biography
Andawa Laveau is a young Wendat artist taking his first steps into the world of music and performance. Deeply connected to the arts since childhood, he grew up surrounded by creativity. With a father who’s a songwriter, a grandmother who’s a traditional singer, and a godfather who performs with Cirque du Soleil, Andawa was immersed early on in both the artistic world and the traditional songs of his ancestors.
A great admirer of Eddie Vedder, especially his work for Into the Wild, Andawa has developed a distinctive folk sound that bridges tradition and renewal. His music blends traditional instruments with modern rhythms, weaving Wendat lyrics into folk-inspired melodies.
A storyteller at heart, he draws inspiration from true stories and the experiences of those around him. His song Fern’s Song, for instance, was inspired by a childhood memory shared by his grandmother. Recently, his voice has been heard at the Wendake Pow-wow and the Wendake Trail.
Andawa also collaborates with Geneviève Gros-Louis to reinterpret traditional songs, bringing a fresh perspective to ancestral music. His cabin remains a precious place of inspiration and creation — a peaceful retreat where the wind, the loons, and the land itself fuel his creativity and sense of self.
