Biography
Doomesh (Emilio Wawatie) is an Anishinaabe (Algonquin) musician, filmmaker, and educator originally from Barriere Lake and the Kitigan Zibi community. Based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal), he holds bachelor’s degrees in music and First Peoples’ Studies from Concordia University. His journey has led him to an interdisciplinary approach to music, art, and culture through the practice of ethnomusicology.
In September 2025, he released his debut album with the support of Minwashin and Musique Nomade. The project, titled Nogom Nikamowin, explores themes from the six seasons of the Anishinaabeg world cycle and was written in Anishinaabemowin. Emilio is currently enrolled in Concordia University’s INDI master’s program, where he is conducting a research-creation project on the revitalization of Anishinaabemowin through songwriting and guitar.
In October 2025, he also took part in the Musique Nomade stop in Montreal/Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang, where he recorded Moniak Otena, an alternative rock song.
