LaBlackStar

Marie-Suzanne Connelly, aka LaBlackStar, is an Atikamekw artist from the Wemotaci community. Passionate about music since childhood, LaBlackStar has always had a desire to express herself through this art form. In high school, she was a singer in a school band and excelled in music. In 2013, she became interested in electronic music and began practicing with FL Studio software. She creates electronic music fusing genres such as Dubstep, Future Bass and EDM. LaBlackStar is inspired by artists such as Illenium, Excision, Dabin, Sullyvan King, Seven Lions, Hardwell, Deadmau5, Linkin Park and Skrillex. She finds inspiration in her daily life, her emotions, her dreams and her culture. Her songs tackle diverse themes such as bullying, self-esteem, travel, exploration, gaming and Japanese anime. Through music, LaBlackStar aims to encourage young people to pursue their passions, and to show them that they're not alone in experiencing difficult times in their lives.
