Biography
FDA (Fiers d’être autochtones – Proud to be Indigenous) is an Atikamekw rap group consisting of 7 members, all from the communities of Wemotaci, Manawan, and Opitciwan. The group grew up and evolved together, coming together around their shared passion for rap and urban music. The collective was founded in 2019 by Ozzy Awashish, supported from the start by Ken Awashish and Franco Awashish. FDA draws inspiration from French, American, and Canadian rap, addressing themes that resonate with their own reality: injustice, school dropout, and social relationships. They also explore the silent anger towards a deeply unjust society, as well as the use of words to confront the violence of everyday life. For them, music becomes a cry from the heart, an assertion of identity, and a powerful tool for gathering. FDA represents an entire generation of young people searching for meaning and self-determination.
