Biography
Kris Kinokewin, aka Christian Boivin, is an Atikamekw singer-songwriter whose musical journey is as rich as it is varied. Born in Wemotaci, he grew up surrounded by the musical influences of the 70s and 80s. In 2007, he founded the group Kinokewin with his brothers, which released its first album Nehirowisw. After this album and numerous collaborations, he began his solo career in 2024 and released the singles Ekote Aci and Kiapatc, as well as Onicka, produced during a stopover with Musique Nomade. These tracks paved the way for his second album, Pe Kiwan. The importance Kris places on the Atikamekw language is reflected in each of his compositions. Carrying deep emotions, this language is for him an essential vector of artistic expression and identity. His folk style, his sincere passion for music and his commitment to his cultural roots make Kris Kinokewin an essential voice in the Atikamekw music scene, offering the world a perspective that is at once intimate, authentic and culturally rich.
