Biography
Laurent Mckenzie, an Innu from Pessamit, learned to play the guitar at the age of 13. A singer-songwriter, he was a member of the band Innu Pacific, with whom he produced an album in 1997. A few years later, he took a hiatus from the music scene between 2000 and 2007, a period of reflection to determine whether he truly wanted to pursue his artistic career. In 2006, this process led him to take a major step towards himself: he became sober and began a new chapter in his life.
He then returned with a solo album, Kanuelim, on which he performs his own compositions. To date, he has five albums to his name and is currently working on a sixth.
Laurent Mckenzie has participated in numerous events in several communities across the province, including the Mamu Indigenous competition in Quebec City, as well as programs such as TAM, presented on APTN in 2009.
Winner of the Indigenous Music Award at the Côte-Nord Culture Excellence Awards (2011 edition), he continues his artistic journey with sensitivity and commitment.
