Shanice Mollen-Picard is an Innu artist and short-film director from the community of Ekuanitshit on Quebec's North Shore, whose career is deeply rooted in Innu culture and traditions. Her first song, Souvenirs de Kukum, recorded with the Musique Nomade team at the Ekuanishit stopover in November 2023, stands out for its emotional depth and rich narrative. The track pays tribute to the wisdom and memories of her grandmother, a central figure in her life. Through poignant lyrics and haunting melodies, Souvenirs de Kukum captures the essence of the intergenerational bond and the transmission of ancestral knowledge. In addition to her artistic commitment, Shanice Mollen-Picard is a determined activist, coordinating the Muteshekau Shipu (Magpie) river protection project since 2019. She continues to use her voice and her art to defend her territory and her culture, making each creation a celebration of Innu identity.
